Keyword Research Template

The template's main objective is to make it easier for you to find, save, and monitor the status of your keywords as you search the internet, create content, and come up with new ideas.

The template database is fairly simple. It comprises:

  • A table to list your keywords: Indicate here the exact keyword you want to rank for—not the post's title or parent topic, just the keyword itself.
  • Keyword volume: The expected monthly search volume for that specific phrase is known as keyword volume. This is something you can monitor in the 'volume' column.
  • Keyword competitiveness: You can monitor the level of difficulty associated with ranking for that keyword in the 'competition' column. Because it's not a precise science and there are differing opinions on what constitutes "high competition," this metric can be a little confusing. Everything under 20 is considered very low competition, 20–50 is considered medium, 50–70 is considered high, and anything over 70 is extremely difficult to rank for.
  • Cost-per-click: The amount you will pay for each click on an advertisement placed against that keyword is known as the "cost per click" (CPC). Although it's not always useful, CPC is a useful metric to monitor if you intend to use advertising in your traffic plan.
  • Content topic: You can monitor parent topics, categories, or keyword clusters in this column. If you want to devote some time to staying focused on a specific subject, this can be useful.
  • Ranking opportunity: You can choose the kind of opportunity that best fits this specific keyword in the opportunity column. Let's say that when you first launch your website, you come across a high-volume, high-competition keyword. It's unlikely that you'll rank for it naturally very soon. However, it may be so pertinent to you that you think about running a paid advertisement campaign with it.
  • Priority: The Priority column is useful. Sort the keywords you want to use by lowest relevance or urgency, starting with 'HP' (Highest Priority) and going through P1 to P5.
  • Search intent: One of the most crucial aspects of keyword research is search intent. Aside from volume and competition, it's important to know what a user wants to accomplish with a given keyword.
